Welcome to Stanford Rivers Cross Country Centre

Introduction

Berwick Farm is a working arable farm, it has been farmed by the Pearl family for 100 years, originally as part of the Suttons Estate.

The Cross Country course was built by Graham Wallin in 1989 for the Essex Hunt North Pony Club to host the inter branch Gosling Cup competition. Graham then extended the course and we were able to host our first Novice affiliated Horse Trials in 1992 and to progress to Intermediate the following year.

In 2001, we held our last affiliated BE Horse Trials as it became economically untenable.  Graham continues to maintain our jumps and to introduce new fences, all to a very high standard.

The course extends to 2.5 miles and is spread over approx. 40 acres; it includes two water complexes and two areas of woodland with jumps in and out.  There is a small course with jumps from approximately 1’9” to 2’3” and a larger course with jumps up to approximately 3’9”.  An assortment of portable jumps are moved around to provide variety and to avoid over use in any area.

A 40m× 20m outdoor manege is also available for hire with or without show jumps.

The Essex North Pony Club host Rallies, Hunter Trials and a One Day Event annually at Berwick Farm.

While various training clinics are organised by us, other clubs & groups organise their own training sessions here in addition to the course being available for hire to individuals.
